چکیده

Using the London equation, we derive a formula by which the pinning force from magnetic dots can be calculated. We numerically calculate the interaction between ferromagnetic dots and vortices in type II superconductors under various conditions. It is found that the pinning force of the magnetic dot with 50 nm thickness reaches 3.5 × 10 N that is one order magnitude stronger than the intrinsic pinning force in cuprate at 77 K. We investigate various parameter dependences of the pinning force. It is found that the most effective way to increase the pinning force is to increase the thickness of the dot. The pinning force is weakly dependent on both the size and magnetic permeability of the dots. When temperature increases, the pinning force linearly decreases. And when the magnetic field increases, the attraction force increases linearly in the low field region.

Periodic vortex pinning with magnetic and nonmagnetic dots: The influence of size

Periodic pinning arrays can give rise to commensurability effects for the vortex pinning in superconductors. We studied the influence of size and separation of the individual pinning centers made out of magnetic and nonmagnetic dots. While there is some dependence on the dot size, the periodic pinning changes its character drastically, as soon as the separation between dots becomes comparable t...

Direct observation of superconducting vortex clusters pinned by a periodic array of magnetic dots in ferromagnetic/superconducting hybrid structures

Strong pinning of superconducting flux quanta by a square array of 1m-sized ferromagnetic dots in a magnetic-vortex state was visualized by low-temperature magnetic force microscopy. A direct correlation of the superconducting flux lines with the position of the dots was derived. It was found, that the superconducting vortices which are preferably located on top of the Py dots experience strong...

Flux pinning by regular nanostructures in Nb thin films: Magnetic vs. structural effects

– Periodic pinning effects in indented Nb films and Nb films with rectangular arrays of submicrometric Ni dots were studied. The indented samples consisted of Nb film deposited on top of Si substrates patterned with rectangular arrays of nanoholes. Pinning effects can be observed in the evolution of resistivity and critical current with the applied magnetic field, showing the same qualitative b...

Numerical calculation of the vortex–columnar-defect interaction and critical currents in extreme type-II superconductors—a two-dimensional model based on the Ginzburg–Landau approximation

We extend our previous one-dimensional Ginzburg–Landau calculations of the pinning energy of vortices to two dimensions, in order to achieve an understanding of the pinning forces exerted on vortices by defects. By minimizing the free energy using a relaxation scheme, we obtain the spatial variation of the order parameter and supercurrents for a vortex in the vicinity of a cylindrical defect in...

Asymmetric flux pinning in laterally nanostructured fer - romagnetic / superconducting bilayers

– We investigated the pinning of flux lines in a superconducting film by a regular array of magnetic antidots. The sample consists of a Co/Pt multilayer with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in which a regular pattern of submicron holes is introduced and which is covered by a type-II superconducting Pb film. The resulting ferromagnetic/superconducting heterostructure shows a pronounced asymmet...
